SOMERVILLE, Mass. — A woman has been arrested after her mother was found dead inside her apartment in Somerville, officials said.
In a news release, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said that April Monroe, 48, has been charged with strangulation and assault and battery on a person over the age of 60 causing serious bodily harm in the death of her mother, Gail Gasperini, 73. Authorities said Gasperini was found dead inside Monroe’s apartment on May 28.
Gasperini was reported missing by her husband after she went on a trip to visit her daughter and never returned, according to WFXT.
Police officers went to the apartment and found Gasperini dead, the news outlet reported.
The medical examiner’s office said that Gasperini’s injuries were consistent with an assault, the district attorney’s office said.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause or manner of Gasperini’s death. Officials said additional charges may be filed.
