According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, another person, who may be a Naval Criminal Investigative Service investigator, was also injured in the shooting, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The man suspected of killing the woman was fatally shot by constable deputies, Gonzalez said. An infant who was inside the home when the initial shooting occurred is safe, the sheriff tweeted.

The initial shooting occurred in the Balmoral community in Humble at about 4 p.m. CDT, KHOU-TV reported.

The sheriff said the husband was a military recruit, and NCIS investigators arrived at their home to do a follow-up interview on domestic violence claims, according to the television station.

At some point during the interview, the suspect arrived at the scene, KTRK-TV reported. Deputies said the man ran into the home and shot the woman, who was holding the infant. The suspect then fled the house and drove away in a vehicle, according to KHOU.

The suspect later encountered Precinct 4 deputies and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, the television station reported.

The suspect was reportedly struck by bullets multiple times, KRPC-TV reported.

The NCIS agent who was shot was taken to an area hospital and was in serious condition, the Chronicle reported. A second NCIS agent was also at the scene of the shooting but was not injured, Gonzalez said.

The identities of the victims and the shooters have not been released.

An investigation is ongoing, Gonzalez said.
