Blast from the past: Vintage Burger King found inside Delaware mall

WILMINGTON, Del. — A photo posted to social media has some people feeling like they’re in a time warp, because it shows a Burger King seemingly stopped in time in the 1990s.

The photo, posted to Twitter, shows recognizable booths and walls from a bygone Burger King era. The caption of the photo said it was taken in April 2022. The user who posted the photo is a vendor at the Concord Mall in Delaware, WPVI reported.

“It’s kind of cool. When I first saw it, I was blown away myself,” Tom Dahlke, the mall’s general manager, told WPVI.

The vintage restaurant exists on the first floor of the mall but is behind a wall and only accessible with a key from an employee, WPVI reported.

Other Twitter users responded to the initial photo with videos of the space, saying that they too had seen it when working at the mall, with one user saying it was used as a storage room in 2019, People reported.

“It’s kind of cool to have something that nostalgic here in the building. We’re hopeful to rent it and have it occupied soon,” Dahlke told WPVI.

Dahlke told the station that the mall’s current management took over in 2020, so he does not know how long the space has been sitting empty.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Burger King said, “Though we aren’t able to confirm details regarding this location, we have verified that the gloriously retro design and décor lines up closely with Burger King restaurants operating in the 1980′s and 1990′s and this is in fact a former Burger King restaurant.”
