Christian Alicea

Puerto Rican salsa singer Christian Alicea was born in 1996 to a family of musicians spearheaded by his percussionist father José R. Bosque, leader of veteran tropical outfit Maiken. Growing up surrounded by music, Alicea began to tour and sing with his father's band in his early teens. Later on, he worked as a fireman for five years but eventually music won the day and he moved to Medellín to try to launch a solo career as a reggaeton singer. As his project was developing, he realized his true roots lay in salsa and subsequently switched over to more traditional tropical rhythms (with Marc Anthony as his main influence) but kept some urbano elements. Alicea began releasing singles around 2019, and he eventually had his breakthrough in 2022 with "Vuelve" and "Cobarde." Both tracks would be included in his debut album, Yo, released in 2023 by Therapist Music and featuring contributions by Maffio, Nacho, Rafa Pabön, DJ Nelson, J Alvarez, and others. ~ Mariano Prunes
