Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Movies & TV Shows

When it comes to new Star Wars movies & TV shows, there’s a lot to wrap your head around. LucasFilm and Disney have made so many announcements over the past couple of years that it would take a true Jedi to know exactly the roadmap they’re envisioning. One thing is for sure; The Skywalker Saga is the past and Disney+ is the future for the galaxy far, far away.

Here’s everything we know is coming.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch (May 4 on Disney+)

The Bad Batch is an all-new animated series that follows a squad of elite, genetically-enhanced clones first introduced in a four-episode arc of The Clone Wars.

The Book of Boba Fett (Dec. 2021 on Disney+)

The series was revealed in a post-credits sequence following The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale, which saw Boba and Fennec Shand return to Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine. Boba blasts Jabba’s right-hand man, Bib Fortuna, and assumes his seat on the throne.

The Mandalorian, Season 3 (TBA on Disney+)

There was initially some confusion as to whether The Book of Boba Fett was a spinoff of The Mandalorian, or the subtitle of the show’s third season, with the main focus shifting from Din Djarin to fellow bounty-hunter Boba? In clarifying that the former is its own separate series, Lucasfilm also announced that “season 3 of The Mandalorian will go into production this year [2021].”

Ahsoka (TBA on Disney+)

Following her live-action introduction in Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian, Rosario Dawson’s former Jedi Knight will front her limited series from creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

Rangers of the New Republic (TBA on Disney+)

Speaking at Disney’s investors call in 2020, Disney CEO Bob Iger teased the potential for spin-offs from the Star Wars spin-off show, The Mandalorian. Then, in December 2020, Rangers of the New Republic was announced, with executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni taking on the series, which will likewise take place during The Mandalorian timeline. No specifics were mentioned, but the series “will intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event.”

Andor (2022 on Disney+)

The 12-episode series will see Cassian Andor, alongside returning characters like K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), set out to “restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi (TBA on Disney+)

Just a week before Disney’s bi-annual D23 expo in 2019, reports emerged that an Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show was on the way, with Ewan McGregor back as the Jedi Master. At the event, McGregor joined Kathleen Kennedy on stage to confirm that yes, finally, he would be returning to the iconic role in a new series.

The Acolyte (TBA on Disney+)

Russian Doll showrunner Leslye Headland’s Disney+ series -- which she will write and executive produce -- is officially titled The Acolyte and teased as “a mystery-thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark sides power in the final days of the High Republic era.”

Lando (TBA on Disney+)

“Lando Calrissian is the galaxy’s smoothest, most notorious scoundrel, and he’ll return in a brand-new event series,” revealed Kathleen Kennedy, though she notably did not disclose who would be playing Lando this time around: Billy Dee Williams, who originated the role, or Donald Glover, who portrayed a younger Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

A Droid Story (TBA on Disney+)

Lucasfilm Animation will team up with Industrial Light & Magic to create a new adventure for R2-D2 and C-3PO. A hybrid of animation and visual effects, the “epic journey” will introduce a new hero to be guided by the beloved droid duo on a “mission known only to them.” Kathleen Kennedy teased, “What could possibly go wrong?”
